Cassel,Ana Paula Rebelo; Barcellos,Regina Bones; Silva,Cláudia Maria Dornelles da; Almeida,Sabrina Esteves de Matos; Rossetti,Maria Lucia Rosa.
The aim of the present study was to investigate the association between HPV-DNA and micronucleus (MN) frequency in women with normal cervical cytology. A total of 158 normal cervical smears were analyzed cytologically. The HPV genome was amplified using the GP5+/bioGP6+ consensus primers. HPV-DNA of high-risk types 16, 18, 31, 33, 39, 45 and 59 were also investigated. Of the 158 samples, 20 (12.7%) and 47 (29.7%) were positive for HPV-DNA and MN, respectively. Evidence for MN was found in 11 out of 20 (55%) HPV-DNA positive samples and in 36 out of 138 (26.1%) HPV-DNA negative ones. MN presence was significantly higher in HPV-DNA positive samples (p = 0.016). On the other hand, the absence of MN observed in a considerable number of HPV-DNA negative samples...

Brandão, Claudia Valéria Seullner; Minto, Bruno Watanabe; Rocha, Noeme Sousa; Ranzani, José Joaquin Titton.
Conjunctival cytology is an important auxiliary diagnostic method that can be easily used by veterinarians in their practice. The objectives of the present study were to evaluate the feasibility of conjunctival cytology by impression on filter paper and to establish the normal characteristics in the domestic cat. The technique was used in thirty cats without topical anesthesia. The Giemsa and Sborr staining were used to study the cytology characteristics. It was found that there is a predominance of epithelial cells in clusters, the cells coming from the intermediate and superficial layers. The collection method proved to be accurate, fast and non-destructive to the conjunctiva, and can be used in the diagnosis and treatment of external eye diseases.

Goudeau, M; Lachaise, F; Kubisz, P; Goudeau, H.
Electrophysiological measurements and related cytological controls were done on immature and submature oocytes of Homarus gammarus . By chromatography (HPLC) and radio-immunoassays (RIA) it was established that submature oocytes displayed different ecdysteroids. Furthermore, the structure of the stalk (funiculus) for the laid eggs attachment was analyzed. it consisted of the two superimposed vitelline envelopes which were likely modified by the cortical reaction exudate during the fertilization process. In addition, the successive secretory phases, regarding to the embryonic envelopes were evidenced. Finally, the ecdysteroid titers of embryonic stages were measured.

Boucaud, C; Lebesnerais, C; Lubet, P; Lihrmann, I.
Feeding experiments carried out on Crassostrea gigas allowed the authors to set up the stages and the timing of the movement of food throughout the digestive tract. Various activities involved in digestion (glycosidases, esterases, and peptidases) were investigated histochemically in the digestive tract in order to localize the sites of absorption and the sites of protein and carbohydrate digestion. An explicative model of the different stages of digestion is proposed.

Etude cytologique ultrastructurale des anomalies hepatiques du loup, de la daurade, et de l'anguille, induites par une alimentation artificielle ArchiMer
Bac, N; Biagianti, S; Brusle, J.
In the three species Dicentrarchus labrax, Sparus auratus , and Anguilla anguilla an artificial feeding (dry pellets) disturbs liver cells as revealed at ultrastructural level. In hepatocytes, anomalies consist of lipids storage (liposomes) considered as deviation in fatty acids metabolism. Moreover are observed cellular alterations (mitochondrial vacuolization, nuclear pycnosis) related to degenerative process. It is of great interest to understand wether liver modifications are just a reaction to an unbalanced feeding or a true trophic pathology.

Insertion of the LINE-1 element in the C-MYC gene and immunoreactivity of C-MYC, p53, p21 and p27 proteins in different morphological patterns of the canine TVT Arq. Bras. Med. Vet. Zootec.
Lima,C.R.O.; Faleiro,M.B.R.; Rabelo,R.E.; Vulcani,V.A.S.; Rubini,M.R.; Torres,F.A.G.; Moura,V.M.B.D..
ABSTRACT The canine transmissible venereal tumor (TVT) affects the external genitalia of dogs by the natural transplant of viable tumor cells. Thus, this research aimed to diagnose and characterize TVT morphological patterns, identify the insertion of the LINE-1 element in C-MYC gene, by means of the polymerase chain reaction (PCR), and evaluate the immunohistochemical expression of C-MYC, p53, p21 and p27 proteins. The relationship between C-MYC and p53 proteins and their interference on the expression of p21 and p27 were also studied. For that, 20 samples of naturally occurring TVT were used, subjected to cytopathological, histopathological and immunohistochemical analysis, and to molecular diagnosis of neoplasia. The increased tissue expression and the...

Investigation of respiratory disorders in Thoroughbred racehorses training at the Brazilian Jockey Club Ciência Rural
Pires,Natália Rebouças; Costa,Maria Fernanda de Mello; Ramos,Marcia Torres; Barreira,Anna Paula Balesdent; Borges,José Renato Junqueira.
ABSTRACT: Athletic horses need to maintain healthy airways for optimal performance. This study investigated the presence of respiratory problems in apparently healthy Thoroughbred racehorses in training. According to the Revised Consensus Statement on Inflammatory Airway Diseases of Horses (2016), determining the prevalence of respiratory disorders in different equine populations is fundamental for understanding these diseases. In total, 72 clinically sound Thoroughbred racehorses, in training at the Brazilian Jockey Club (JCB), were initially examined using interpleural pressure measurement by ventigraphy and respiratory endoscopy. When secretions were present in the airways, transendoscopic tracheal aspiration was performed, and the sample was sent for...

Is endobronchial ultrasound-guided transbronchial needle aspiration with a stylet necessary for lymph node screening in lung cancer patients? BJMBR
Xu,Y.; Lin,J.; Jin,Y.; Wu,X.; Zheng,H.; Feng,J..
During endobronchial ultrasound-guided transbronchial needle aspiration (EBUS-TBNA), a needle is commonly used with a stylet, although recently the stylet has been omitted. This prospective study aimed to compare the quality of specimens obtained by EBUS-TBNA performed with and without a stylet. Between November 2013 and November 2014, 131 patients with lung cancer underwent EBUS-TBNA, with a total of 148 mediastinal or hilar lymph nodes sampled both with and without an inner-stylet, yielding 296 cytological specimens. Specimens were scored cytologically using five parameters: background blood or clot, amount of cellular material, degree of cellular degeneration, degree of cellular trauma, and retention of appropriate architecture. The procedure with a...

Karyotype characterization of Malpighia emarginata (Malpighiaceae) Rev. Bras. Frutic.
Mondin,Mateus; Oliveira,Carlos Alberto de; Vieira,Maria Lúcia Carneiro.
Malpighia emarginata Sessé & Mociño ex DC. or West Indian cherry (acerola) is a wild plant originated in southern Mexico, Central America and the northern region of South America. The species was introduced to Brazil about 60 years ago and now the country is the world's biggest producer. Even though the fruits of acerola have high commercial value, as they are an important source of the natural vitamin C, very little chromosome information is available for this species. Previous studies showed that most Malpighia species are diploids, including M. emarginata with 2n = 20. In the present paper, the chromosome number of acerola was confirmed, and for the first time, its karyotype was described, providing the identification of the homologues for the...

Modifications ultrastructurales du chorion dans les kystes prehumidifies d'Artemia. ArchiMer
Ultrastructural changes of the chorion were studied in prehydrated Artemia cysts. After incubation for 12, 24, 48 and 72 hours, in hygrostats (under controlled relative humidity, that range from 19% to 99%), the authors observed in cysts that were maintained (for at least 48 h in 99% of relative humidity, some chorionic alveoli containing electron dense structures. They presume that ions and/or molecules migrate during prehydration from inside the cyst to the alveolar layer.
